Job Title: Materials Planner
Location: Waukegan, IL
Salary Range: $68-85k
Role Overview:
Seeking a Materials Planner to manage the lifecycle of our materials from procurement through production. This critical role is an even 50/50 split between material planning and purchasing, bridging the gap between bringing in raw materials and scheduling them for the shop floor. Operating in a highly regulated manufacturing environment, you will own the material flow, orchestrate outside vendor processing, and ensure full data traceability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Procurement & Vendor Management: Source, negotiate, and issue purchase orders for a wide range of commodities (including custom metals, electronics, and cables); track market conditions and secure the best total cost and value.
- Material & Production Planning: Analyze inventory levels, calculate reorder points, and establish safety stock requirements to prevent production shortages while avoiding excess inventory.
- Outside Processing Coordination: Create routing steps, release work orders, and track materials sent to outside vendors for specialized processing (e.g., testing, chemical processing, painting).
- Cross-Functional Alignment: Act as the central hub of communication between Supply Chain, Machining, Assembly, Quality, and Shipping to provide real-time updates on material status and risk mitigation.
- Systems & Data Integrity: Manage day-to-day operations within our Intuitive ERP system, ensuring flawless documentation and data accuracy to support upcoming Microsoft Dynamics 365 migration.
- Continuous Improvement: Partner with Engineering and Quality teams to evaluate technical documents (BOMs/drawings), resolve supplier quality issues, and spearhead cost-saving initiatives.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of material planning, purchasing, or production control experience specifically within a manufacturing or machine shop environment
- Strong proficiency with ERP/MRP systems; Epicor, or Dynamics 365 is a plus
- Microsoft Excel skills for data analysis
- High School diploma required; an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, or a related field is highly preferred
