Job Title: Cash Applications Specialist
Location: Lake Forest, IL (100% Remote)
Pay Range: $24/HR–$26/HR (Based on experience and qualifications)

Brilliant Financial Staffing has been exclusively engaged in a search for a Cash Applications Specialist with our client, a leading manufacturer and distributor of food packaging and foodservice products. This organization supplies customers across North America, including supermarkets, restaurants, food processors, and foodservice outlets. The Cash Applications Specialist will report to the Accounts Receivable Manager and be responsible for processing incoming customer payments, resolving payment discrepancies, and ensuring accurate cash application across multiple business units. This is a six-month temporary opportunity offering a fully remote work arrangement, and our client is looking to hire as soon as possible!
Cash Applications Specialist Duties:
- Process incoming lockbox payments and accurately apply cash receipts to customer accounts in a timely manner.
- Post daily payments, including wire transfers, ACH/EDI transactions, and credit card payments across multiple business units.
- Research and resolve customer payment discrepancies, including deductions, cash discounts, pricing differences, and short payments, in accordance with company policies.
- Log daily cash processing activity and update payment information through the company's banking platform.
- Investigate payment application discrepancies received from the Credit and Claims departments.
- Assist with identifying short payments and improving downstream processing efficiency.
- Verify transaction accuracy, ensuring payments are properly supported and processed in accordance with internal policies and SOX compliance requirements.
- Research, plan, and assist with the implementation of cash application changes for new customers.
- Navigate multiple ERP and accounting systems to support cash application activities across different business units.
- Assist with special projects and additional duties as assigned.
Cash Applications Specialist Qualifications:
- Previous cash applications experience is required.
- Experience processing lockbox payments, ACH/EDI transactions, wire transfers, and credit card payments is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when processing financial transactions.
- Ability to research, identify, and resolve payment discrepancies, deductions, short payments, and unapplied cash.
- Basic Microsoft Excel skills and the ability to navigate multiple accounting systems.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment while meeting daily deadlines.
- Dependable, adaptable, and motivated, with the ability to learn new systems and processes.
