Director – Property & Development Accounting (Industrial Real Estate)
Location: Chicago, IL, Hybrid | $140,000 to $170,000 + Bonus & Benefits
A leading real estate investment and development firm is seeking a Director of Property & Development Accounting to oversee the accounting and financial operations for a growing industrial portfolio. This role will be responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, compliance with governing agreements, and leadership of the accounting team supporting both development and operating assets.
Key Responsibilities

Oversee all accounting functions for assigned industrial projects and entities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and GAAP compliance

Review and approve capital calls, distributions, and cash flow forecasts; manage treasury activities including bank reconciliations and reserve calculations

Maintain oversight of financial reporting for complex ownership structures including joint ventures and development partnerships

Ensure compliance with loan documents, JV agreements, leases, and property management contracts

Review and analyze general ledger activity, debt transactions, and project-level performance

Oversee accounting treatment of acquisitions, dispositions, and construction-in-progress

Partner closely with internal departments and external partners to support project execution and financial transparency

Direct internal and external audit processes, and review tax projections and supporting documentation

Provide technical accounting guidance and financial insight to operations and development teams

Lead, train, and develop accounting staff; conduct performance reviews and set development goals

Identify and implement process improvements, system enhancements, and risk mitigation strategies

Prepare and review ad hoc financial and management reports for senior leadership and investors
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

CPA required
-
6+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally combining public accounting and real estate industry exposure

3+ years of management experience

Industrial real estate or development accounting experience strongly preferred

Proven ability to manage complex ownership and capital structures

Strong technical accounting, analytical, and organizational skills

Excellent communication and leadership abilities

Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a dynamic environment
