As the Corporate Controller, based at the Chicago headquarters, you will report directly to the CFO and collaborate closely with team members to manage daily accounting operations, financial reporting, and audit and tax compliance. Your accounting expertise will play a vital role in supporting sustainable growth and the strategic planning efforts for optimizing resource generation. This role also partners with Operations to evaluate project performance and forecast cash flows.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee accounting functions, including general ledger, revenue recognition, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and billing.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of monthly and annual financial close processes, with all supporting reconciliations in compliance with GAAP.
- Collaborate with project finance, lenders, and investors to support capital-raising efforts.
- Partner with Operations on development projects, construction, and operational assets to ensure accurate accounting throughout each project phase.
- Manage intercompany eliminations and consolidated reporting for multiple subsidiaries, including audit and tax requirements.
- Work with auditors to ensure timely provision of required documents and favorable audit outcomes.
- Collaborate with external tax preparers to oversee accurate and timely completion of all corporate and partnership tax returns and forms, ensuring compliance and optimization.
- Conduct cash forecasting and capital budgeting analysis in collaboration with other departments.
- Coordinate with the development team and registered agents on LLC formation and maintenance.
- Provide leadership and support to the accounting team, fostering a culture of professional growth and development.
- Implement standardized accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all areas, maintaining required standards.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and optimize workflows, including enhancements to the NetSuite ERP system.
- Research and interpret data to answer accounting and financial questions.
- Leverage strong analytical skills to identify trends, develop strategies, and address challenges in a growing environment.
Required Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- Minimum of 10 years of accounting experience
- Renewable energy industry experience a plus
- Experience in construction or manufacturing industries (job costing & percentage of completion) preferred
- CPA and public accounting background preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Familiarity with NetSuite ERP is a plus, including journal entry posting, transaction management, and report generation
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities effectively
- ERP implementation experience a plus
- Ability to identify and strengthen internal control weaknesses
